Switched Reluctance Drives Ltd has worked with a major automotive component supplier to respond to a growing need for technology which reduces fuel consumption and emissions while preserving as much of the existing vehicle infrastructure as possible.  The result is a 12V, belt-driven starter-generator which allows “Stop-Go” operation of motor vehicles.

The starter-generator will deliver up to 65Nm cranking torque, 2.4kW cranking power and 3kW generated power.  The latest technology developments and manufacturing techniques have been employed to maximize the continuous output of the generator using liquid cooling from the engine coolant circuit.

Position sensorless control coupled with state-of-the-art MOSFET technology leads to a cost-effective solution with a 7:1 constant power region and high generating efficiency across the speed and load range.
